Shell Bank Junior High School, located in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn, is a small school with a big heart. TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION
We employ the latest technology across all curriculum areas to ensure that students will be able to foster 21st century skills. In all content areas, Shell Bank's teachers utilize G Suite with their students. G Suite provides opportunities for students to collaborate in real time, to learn to manage deadlines and work flow, and it provides a valuable tool for parent - teacher contact.
RESEARCH BASED INSTRUCTIONAL STRATEGIES
Our goal is to cultivate a culture of thinkers. We have established Visible Thinking Routines as our primary pedagogical approach to enhance learning. Visible Thinking is a research-based teaching practice, developed at Harvard university, which aims to integrate the development of students' thinking with content learning across subject matters.
SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING
We know that social emotional programs improve the behavior, attitudes, and academic performance for all students. Guided by research from Yale University on resiliency, the Muttigrees Curriculum promotes social emotional competence. In addition, our guidance department integrates the NYC comfort dog program.
We also offer a variety of learning opportunities and extracurriculars so that all students can find their passion: from high school Regents courses, to our chorus and theater programs, to cooking and nutrition, and sports, among many others. Shell Bank has something for everyone.
